Ypsilantian Loses Appeal On Fine
James W. Dorsey, of 917 Jefferson, Ypsilanti, was sentenced yesterday in Circuit Court to pay a $100 fine and $20 costs and to make $27.75 restitution to the city of Ypsilanti for defacing two urban renewal signs with tar last July.
Dorsey's conviction in Ypsilanti's Municipal Court for willful destruction of property was upheld in Circuit Court Jan. 29. The charge arose out of an incident on July 23, 1963, when two signs designating Ypsilanti's urban renewal area were defaced.
The Ypsilanti Municipal Court trials of Dorsey's wife, Mattie, a longtime foe of the urban renewal project, and of Mrs. Henrietta Moore of 891 Jefferson, Ypsilanti, are pending. They are charged with alleged participation with Dorsey in smearing the signs.
