Burke Leaves State Board
Governor Accepts Resignation From Civil Service Commission
LANSING-U.P.-Gov. Fitzgerald today accepted the resignation of George J. Burke, Ann Arbor, as a member and chairman of the Civil Service Commission.
Fitzgerald said he will appoint a successor before the commission meets to select a personnel director to succeed William A. Brownrigg, who is going with the U. S. Department of Justice.
Two members of the commission last week named Warren M. Huff, one of Brownrigg's assistants, as acting director. The commission deferred selection of a permanent administrative chief for the department until Burke's return from a vacation trip in the south. | Fitzgerald said he will leave the choice of Brownrigg's successor to the commission.
Burke's resignation effective March 1, was on the governor's desk when he took office Jan. 1. Fitzgerald asked him to remain as chairman until he had time to look around for a suitable person to serve on the commission.
The governor praised Burke's services and promised that he will appoint "a man of equal standing and one with perhaps a better background so far as personnel administration is concerned.”
In his letter to Burke, the governor thanked the Ann Arbor attorney for continuing as chairman until now.
