Mr. White, nn iofirtn old man, huw cnme in, aiul they askod hitn il Abram Ross was stopping in his house. Ho being intimidated by their arma and threatening look, replied that Ron did stop there, nnd vvns prnbably then in bed up stairs. They at once throw ofi' the clothes and ntfemptei! to ding them fio n the bed, but were told the pergoo thev were in quest of was Dot there. Ross, who was in brd in an adjoiping room, bêsrd the noisc nüd attpmpted to escape from the wiadow en to the roof of n shet!, but his flight wns here intercepted by Ibnr or five accompliccs of the principal viliaiiis. who were stüticminl on that side oftlie house Tho kidnappers had by thistime discovered his retrrat, nnd be wns taken without difficulty, gagged. placod in n buggy or some other conveynnce, and carried off. It. is certain, however, that quite a nuinber of oor citizens did give chase to the kidnappers, nnd if zeal in the canse of liumanity nnd the aid of fjeet horses enn avail anything, they will be overtaken, tfaeir victim rescued, and they brought to merited punishinent.
