Fire Force Adds Three

Ann Arbor Fire Chief Ernest Heller today announced the appointment to the Fire Department of three new men.

Donald E. Calvert, 28, of 1441 Broadway, Kenneth E. Rutledge, also 28, of 1121 Birk Ave., and William C. Kramer, 25, of 4410 Portage Lake Rd., Webster township, are now undergoing a probationary period and training program, Chief Heller said.

The three appointments bring the Fire Department to within one of its total authorized complement of 82 command officers and men.

Calvert is an Ann Arbor native, graduating from Ann Arbor High School in 1956. He served in the Army for three years and attended Eastern Michigan University at Ypsilanti for three years. He was formerly employed with the city’s Public Works Department. He is married and has three children.

Rutledge, born in Anil Arbor, was graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1952. He served as military policeman in the Army in Korea from 1953 to 1955. He formerly worked for a local roofing company. He is married and the father of one child.

Kramer, a native of Webster township, was graduated in 1955 from Dexter High School and formerly worked for a plastics firm in the city. He served in an Army security unit in Alaska from 1958 to 1961. He is unmarried.
