Four area teenagers have been awarded scholarships for academic achievement from the local Delta Psi Omega chapter of the national Alpha Kappa Alpha, the oldest black women's sorority.<br><br>LeAnn C. Hackney, a graduate of Huron High School in Ann Arbor and the daughter of Ann Arbor School Board Trustee Larry Hack-<br><br>ney, and Frances Howard, of Willow Run High School, were awarded $750 scholarships. Both plan to study medicine, Hackney at Princeton University and Howard starting at the Hampton Institute.<br><br>The group awarded $500 scholarships to Lily Hu, from Ann Arbor’s Pioneer High School and Yulonda Swanson, from Willow Run High<br><br>School. Hu plans to study medicine at the University of Michigan and Swanson engineering at Eastern Michigan University.<br><br>The four, along with 11 other teen-agers, also received certificates last month for outstanding academic achievement and extracurricular activities at their high schools.
