Exhibit | Fulgencio Lazo: Dia de los Muertos Tapete
Tuesday October 1, 2019: 6:00pm to Saturday November 2, 2019: 9:00pm
Downtown Library: 3rd Floor Open Area
Fulgencio Lazo is a Zapotec/Mixtec painter and printmaker from Oaxaca, Mexico. For more than 23 years, Lazo has been working with museums, art centers and community groups to create “tapetes” or carpets of colored sand for Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations. These installations are collaboratively designed and installed with community members over the course of several days. This exhibit includes an ofrendas display with papel picados (paper flowers). Visitors may add their papel picado to the display throughout the month of October. Supplies can be found on the third floor.
This exhibit is in partnership with the U-M Residential College and the Stamps Gallery.
