New University Students Are Oriented

Freshman orientation period at the University sees the "frosh” divided into small groups which are counseled by an upperclass adviser. Here a group of 12 girls waits on the steps of the library for Its adviser to show up.

Before finally registering, each beginning student is advised by an academic counselor as to just what course or courses he or she should take. The girl here listens while Dr. Hugh Z. Norton explains a particulars point about her program.

At the Michigan League an information center is set up to answer questions of both upperclassmen and the freshmen. Pamphlets on college etiquette are distributed there. The two freshman girls on the left are glancing through the publication.

As a part of orientation proceedings, each new student receives a thoroughly detailed health examination. Two freshman girls here are having their cards checked before going on into the examination room. This work continues through the week.

Ear, nose and throat examinations are being given these freshman girls in the basement of Barbour gymnasium. Senior medical students are conducting the examinations here, under the supervision of Health Service staff members.

Walking across campus to one of the numerous meetings the freshmen have to attend, a group adviser points out the Chemistry Building to her charges. One tour is specifically scheduled to familiarize the new students with every building on campus.
