Auxon: a self-replicating system of robots that reproduces exponentially until it reaches a critical threshold. In common usage this term can refer to either a collective of robots or to individual members thereof.

Douglas Bosley’s artwork imagines a future version of earth where the familiar environment has been eclipsed by engineered ecosystems and mechanical creations that have begun to interpret and interact with their environment in novel ways.  Alternating between silverpoint and mezzotint, each piece is meticulously detailed, dramatically lit, and builds off the work preceding it.  Collectively, the work posits an alternate history and future timeline with roots in the physical laws and scientific discourse.

The world Auxons inhabit questions our ideas of technological progress and the future of the Earth ‘s species.   It implies that the course of events is other than inevitable and leaves open the possibility to consider alterity, and meaningful change.
