Extra Opening In A Cow's Teat
Am extra opening on one side of a cow's teat, at somc distanpe from tho OH(l, and discharging the milk in a wrong dlrection, maj bc the only opening from one part of tbc gland, or it may bc but n artificial opening into the common milk duet. If there is a portion of the gland supplying the milk to I Ii tí regular opening at the end of the t(vit, and another and distinct portion furnishing milk to escape by the orífice in the side of the teat, and if there is uo infernal communication between the iwo, the maUonnation will bc troublcsome to remedy, and it may be the best and most proötable coursu to let it alone. If, however, ihe milk which escapes by the side opening in the tea) can ateo be made to fiowout of the opening in the end, all that is wanted is to cloie the opening in the side, and this eau usuallv be accomplished without difficulty. Onemethoii of accomplishing this would be to pare or serape the edges of the opening in the side of the teat so as to leave it raw all round, and briuging the edges closelv together to cover them with layer aft er layer of eollodion, allowing each lavar to dry before applying the next. Atter cach milking it. will usual ly bc needful to apply a new layer of eollodion to fix whatever may have been detached or displaced. 'J'lie same coiild be accomplished by stitchin the edges of the wound caretully togeüier, but in this case the Btitohee are Üable to drag upon the skin iliuiiig milking, and thereby irrítate and retard the bealing procesa. - N.
