CANCELED: KidLitCon | Opening & Morning Keynote with Dawn Quigley

Friday March 27, 2020: 9:30am to 10:30am

Downtown Library: 1st Floor Lobby

Due to circumstances beyond our control, this event has been canceled. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Dawn Quigley, PhD, enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe, speaks about celebrating Native youth literature and curriculum in ways that honor Indigenous representations in blogs, libraries, and schools. Quigley shares her-life long connections with reading and writing - both uplifting and painful memories that fan her flame to continue to create Native KidLit. She also shares her journey of how her own writing and research of Native American literature began at her local library in Mankato, Minnesota.

Dawn Quigley has taught English and reading for 18 years in the K-12 schools where she is also an Indian Education program co-director. In addition to her coming-of-age novel, Apple in the Middle (NDSU Press) and nonfiction picture book, Native American Heroes (ScholasticPress), she has a Native American chapter book series with Heartdrum | HarperCollins about lovable and quirky Ojibwe first grader, Jo Jo (summer 2021). Quigley also has over 28 published articles, essays and poems. She lives in Minnesota with her family.

This event is part of KidLitCon – an annual conference for people who care about and/or blog about children’s and young adult literature.
