Description

Due to circumstances beyond our control, this event has been canceled. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Poetry and picture books can be powerful tools to engage young people in real-life issues of social justice and civic engagement. Likewise, opportunities for children to write their own poems allow children to give voice to the issues facing them as individuals and us as a society.

Join picture book authors Keila Dawson and Christy Mihaly and Shawntai Brown, a poet and the school coordinator of InsideOut Literary Arts, as they discuss recent fiction and nonfiction picture books using poetry to address social justice, teach civics, and the ways that these books can be used most effectively in schools. Moderated by Allia McCoy.

This event is part of KidLitCon – an annual conference for people who care about and/or blog about children’s and young adult literature.
