C. L. Starbuck Dies At 63 Years

Former Restaurateur Succumbs To Illness

Clinton L Starbuck, 63, former Ann Arbor restaurant owner, died this morning at his home, 407 S. Fifth Ave. after an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Starbuck was born in Carmel, Ind., on Dec. 23, 1882, the son of Benjamin and Sarah Starbuck. He came to Ann Arbor in 1920 from Detroit, establishing a restaurant on E. Liberty St. which he operated until 1925, when he purchased the College Inn on S. State St. from Elmer Stofflett.

After operating the College Inn until 1935, he opened the Starbuck College Inn in the Whittiker building on S. Main St. He remained in business there until November, 1943, later operating the Blue Room at the Barton Hills Country Club until he retired last year due to ill health.

In January, 1902, Mr. Starbuck was married to Ethel Ellington of Pendleton, Ind. He was a member of Golden Rule Masonic Lodge and of the Elks.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Marian Burhans, and two grandchildren, of East Lansing; and two brothers, Earl Starbuck of Spiceland, Ind., and Walter S. of Anderson, Ind.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon with Rev. Robert Jongeward officiating, at the Muehlig chapel. Burial is to be in Bethlehem cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
