On the eveniug of Dec. 14th Mis Mattie Lutz lost ber pocket book oonlaining $24,43 i u money, f rom her father's residence.Geo. F. Lutz. 8he placed the portemonnaie on the baniater, and during her absence it was taken. A young man named Williams had a room in the building and suspicion resteil on him. He was arrested the next day and token before Justice Winegar. He pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned until Monday last. In the mean time the pocket book and money was left in the place f rom whence it was taken. Accompaying the pocket book was the following anonymous letter: "I was in town last Tuesday evening and by mistake came up your stairway instead of the one next north, and I found this purse on tbc banister and at the same time saw my mistake in the place. I was about to go down stairs when a man and woman came up and I was so frightened being in the wrong place, and also having the money that I hid in a back place that I found and they went on up, and I went down and out. I came to town to-day and when I found by Wednesday's daily paper that a man was arrested for it, I made up my mind to give it back to you and now I feel happier. There was only 24.43 in it." The case was again adjourned until Tuesday, but as the complaint was withdrawn the defendant reseivcd his discharge.
