At a sesfiion oí' the national base all llague held in Nnw York, the folowing revisions were made in the )!aying rules: The pitcher's position is moved five "eet further from the home base, and the number of cali balls is reduced to seven and strikes to three, the wam111?, "good ball," beingomitted. Substitutes cannot take the place of players aller beginning a game, except in case of illness or injury. A base renner shall not have a substitute run for him under any circumstances. The base runner may be put out on returning to his base after a foul ball, if go tuclied by the ball in the hand of a flelder after the pitcher has handled it. A visiting club may select one of its employés to umpire the game in case the home club fails to produce the umpire agieed upon. In scoring, the columns of bases in hits is substituted for bases rwn and of errors for total chances offered. Spaulding's league ball was adopted for the next season.
