revived the old fashion of üaakirtg patehwork quilts. Nilk lias been substituted for calicó, and a tasteful and artistie arrangement of colors renders the present style very béaütiïul. Ihej are made in squares, the seleatiou of coíora and grouping of the squares, being a matter of taste lelt u designer. )ne lecently cunipleted liad a sniall black velvet lilock in the centre of eaeh square. It containcd sixtv squares, and in the eentre appeared St'. Andrew's cross formed of vanous shades of yellnv. In f oïming this cross four squares were sewed together, On fwo sides oí the blacfc block in the centre of each square narrow strips of yellow were sewed, eaeh stripe being darker than theone precediiig it, and at the edge was a dark velvet stripe. The other sities oí the squares were (lévoted to otliw colors, and thcy, joinexl to othera alike in the arrangement of colors, made the whole expanse s oeos8ioB of St. Andrevv's crosses varii-d in color; As each strijie is sewed pn, a strip pf wadölhg is rnserted beneátli it. A border s fonued, cciiiiposed of slripcs oí all the colora used in the squares, and this might be tinishcd oil witii b'inge to niat'li the colore. Tlie squares have a tniislin foundation, and a dtscarded silk dress mav be u'tilized for the lining.
