Gen. Garfield's farm eontains 155 acres, all under cultivation, except a few acres of timber. It lies 25 miles east of Cleveland, fronting on the oíd wagon road from Cleveland to Buffaio, and the Lake Shore railroad runs through it. The soil is a rich, sandy loam, and is very productive. The fencei are kept in good repair, and are the best in the township. When Gen. Garfield purchased the farm, abontfour years ago, there were eight ación of swarap land near thecenter of it whlch was considera! ahnost worthless. Tlie General's knowledge of engineering bete carne into practical use, and under his personal supervisión the swamp was drained. It is now very valuable land. Besides, the drains f urnish a constant and abnndant supply ot pure water, which. bj means of a hydraulie ratn, s forced up to the elevated site of the house and barn, whereit is used. 'J'liis very simple and inexpensire kind of water works is a model farm improvernent, which might be adopted with advantage by many farmers. The Genera! has a herd of 26, mostly grade Shorthorns, hut there are three Jersey cows and one thoroughbred Jersey buil. The latter was presented to Genonü Garfield by Ilon. A. S. Hewitt. The milk from Gen. Garfleld'a dairy is earted to the railway station every niorning and evening, and shipped to the Cleveland market. Near the barn i a small building, in which is kept asteara engine, used for sawing wood, cutting feed for the stock, etc. Besides the tock already mentioned there are 18 thoroughbred Cotswold sheep and a dozen swine of the Berkshire and Poland China breeds. Notwithstanding the alleged depredaions of visitors, very fair eropa were harvested as a result of the past season's work. Froih 15 aeree of oom there were husked 1030 bushels; 7J acres of wheat aver.iged 33 bushels per aore; 14 acres of oats yielded 575 bushels; from 35 acres of meadow were harvested 75 tons of liay, and 3 acres of inangel-wurzels yieldeil OOO bushels, There is also a small buckirheat erop not yet thrathed There is also a small orelmrd, whlch lore this year about 500 buahels of apples. The farm, wlth the improvements mado on it bv (eneral Garfield, is estimated to be worth $25,000.
