works for utilizing some of the enormous water-power of Niágara river are now in progresa under the auspice3 of the new company formed not long since. In 1850 a canal three-quarters of a mile long, 36 feet wide and 10 feet deep, with a íall of 2 feet, was constructed. The canal leaves the river above the falls and erupties into a reservoir below. In this pit will be placed three large wheels, to which the water will be led by huge iron pipes. This will give an available head of 134 feet, and the possibilities of power seem inexhaua tibie.
