-Not long ago R. B. Srnith, of North Rase, "VVayne county, New York, conceived the idea of obtaining a number of camels in this territory Lor Sells Bros.' circus, having ascertained that they could be secured more conven iently and at less expense than if imported from their native country. Having made i satisfaetory contract with Sells Bros. he carne here not long ago and succeeded, witli the assistance of Pantha, chief of the Navajos, in corraling nine camels about forty miles from Gilla Bend, at a cost to him of about $500, and rnuch flner specimens of the species than are exhibited in the traveling menageries. Mr. Smith passed through the city, ïhursday evening with his cargo, and feels greatly elevated over his success. Two of the beasts are very young, and it is feared one will not bo able to withstand the cold weather experienced during the passage east. - Tueson (Arizona) Journal. Another step toward complete repudiation has been taken in Louisiaua. The original debt was scaled by the Demócrata 40 per cent., and it was theii announced that the State was able to pay only 2 per cent. on the reduced prinoipal. The State pledged herself to pay this, and the pledge was incorporated in the revised Constitation which was adopted by the people. Now the Legislature in extra session has passed a revenue bill which apportions only one mili to the interest f und, though it has been demonstrated that a levy on that basis wil! notraise more than twothirds of tie interest on the debt proi ised to the creditcrs. The New Orieans Picayune calis the bill the 'last ditch of shame lef t to our State," and as the bill ia a Democratie ineasure, and the Picajrtmeis a Democratie newspaper, this must be an accurate statement.
