As the spring election approaches the question is often asked who are to bs the candidates for the various offices. Now, for the purpose of informing the readers of Thk Dbmocrat on this subject, a reporter has been on the look out for several days and the -whole thing may be sumined up as follows- that is as to the candidates mentioned. On the republi can side of the house the naines of Ri3e A. Beal and Joe T. Jacobs are the only ones who have this early been brought forward for the office of mayor. The best paying office on the ticket is that of recorder, and as the Hamilton's.now have an "organ" of their own Joel W. will probably be urged for the position - in tact he is almost sur to be the candidate. Withthe poitofflce at the head of the ticket aad the Hamilton block next in the list, the tvro factions could thus harmonize. James McMahon wil! not ask for the nomination, but if it is given, to him he will take off his coat and go in to win. In the flrst supervisor's district, which consista of the flrst and second wards, the oíd retejan, Conrad Krapf, will endeavor to carry off the honors, and knowing ones think he will be nominated. A. A. Gregory in the second district, if he will consent to run, can have the nomination, and Geo. H. Khoades will undoubtedly be renominated in tbe third district. In some of the wards the office of alderman and constable will probably go a begging, and at this early day it is impossible topredict who the victima will be. The temperance element is bent on running a citizen _ticket this spring. There is not theleaK doubt that Dr. Herdman will be tñeir caniidatefor mayor. Andrew Norton, a promineht young Irisbman and president of the Catholic temperance society, is mentioned for recorder. B. P. Grauger, who-don't stand the ghost of a chanco of receiving a renominatiou at tha hands of the deniocracy for justice of the peacc, is looming up as the temperance men's candi 3ate. It is also proposed to nomínate out and out temperance men for the office of supervisor, aldermen and constables.
