Notwithstanding the various disadvantages, such as bad roads, poor raihoad accominodations, etc, the meeting of the Washtenaw county pioneer society, held at Saliuc Wednesday, was a complete success. The atteudance from abroad was, for the reasons above stated, not very large, but this vicinity was wcll represented. At the appointed hour the meeting was called to order and in the absence of Rev. Dr. Holmes, president of the society, Mr. E. D. Lay, of Ypsilanti, was chosen president pro tem. After prayer and the singing of the Doxology in the good old faíhioned way, the miDutes of the previous meeting were read and various reports made. As we heard the naines read of those of the society who had died since the last meeting, only three mouths previous, we could not but realiza he rapidity with which our good old pioneers - those who struggled against hardships and privations to mak our glorious old Washtenaw what she is - had passed away, the number beiug nearly twenty. ollowing these came the relating of incidents of pioneer life, by various members, among them the worthy secretary of the society, Mr. Davis, of Aun Arbor, who did much to make the meeting interestng. He related bis experience in comng from Ypsilanti to this place in 1829, n a two wheel cart, bef ore even a road was cut through the woods, Others told of howhng wolves and ugly bears. At about 12 o'clock all adjourncd "or dinner, which was waiting for them in he room below. Here again, the ladies of this vicinity inaintained their reputaion of being unexcelled in their ability o administerto the wants of the "inner man," as tbe tables were literally loaded down witb good things of every descripion. The pioneer9 loo, showed their ap)reciation, by doipg tbe meal ampie justice. At two o'clock the meeting was again called to order and the programme of the morning continued. Rev. J. C. Wortley made a short speech, in wbich he acknow edged the weakness Methodist ministers ïad for good dinncrs, like the one just served. Rev. Bush related various incidents, and made pleasinjj remaiks. Secretary Davis occupied some time in criticiing tbe new county hialory, in which, in our opinión, he blamei the publisher to some extent, unjustly, as it is almost an impossibiüty, for a stranger especially, to compile a volume of such magnitude, and composed so largely of names aud dates, without making errors. We blame tbe local committees who were appoiuted to revise the manuscript. At about 4:30 p m., after some excellent vocal music by tbe pioneer choir, tbe meeting adjourned, to meet again at Ypsilauti, on Thursday, June 1, 1882. After many a f riendly good-bye, and the expression of the wish, "may we meet again," the venerable party disbanded, some of them, no doubt, uever again to meet on earth. May the remainder of their days be pleasant one?, and their fiual reward, heaven. - Saline Observer.
