The average state tax levied by the demócrata fiom 1850 to 1855, the last flve years of their power iu Michigan, was $'08,000 per year. The reput)lican3 are now taxing the people of the state alxmt $1,700,000 per year. Tho republican state tax is over flfteen times as large as it was under democratie rule. Republican rule means exorbitant taxes, extravagrant expenditures, and tho rule of the rings and monopolista to plunder the 4eople. Democratie rule means economy, low taxes, and simple, honest rule of the people, with opposition to all rings and monopolies. The state tax is more than $1 for every man, woman and child iu the state, or about $5 to every family. The interna! revenue tax collecled by tbe federal governmeut in this state is more than f 1 for every man, wornau and child in the state, or more than $5 to every family iu the state. The taxes colleeted of the people of this state through cusloms duties is $7,000,000 or considerably over $4 for every man woman and cliild in the state, and over $20 to every family in the state. It certaiuly is not unfelt. The ta xof 100 per ceiit on steel rails increases the cost of railroads, increases the transportation charges, and takes its toll out of every bushei of wheat marketed. Freight can be transponed from Chica go to the seaboard at a profit, upon a charge of 20 cents per hundred pounds. Every five cents additional charge per hundred equals $75,000,000 in invoicipg a year's erop. In this way $225,000,000 is taken by the monopolies iu a single year out of the people of tha Northwest and put into the poekets of the railroad kings. This immense ilraught on the industries of tbe people is oppiessing labor and enriching ring rule. Such are the fruits of republican rule. Deaiocratic rule would break up the rings, reduce taxes, preserve to the laborer the result of bis labor, and giv honeïit and economical government. Jeffersonian democracy is to save the liberües of the people the fruits of their owq
