Dwight, 111., March 16.- One of the strongwt and most convincing facts that I have yet wen with regard to tile drainage is brought out in the December report of the Agricultural Department of Illinois. It is this: ACREAOE. Acreage in co.-n in Livingston County, 1881 968,W Acreage in corn in Logan County, 18Ü1... ÍW.ÍÍW Livingston over Logan 127,788 YIELJ). Yield of corn in Livingston County. 1881. .6,983,522 Yield of corn in Logan County, 188a 5,070,944 Livingston over Logan 1,9(8.5 In other words. Logan County has raised ne ly as much corn on 11O,859 acres as Living'011 county has on 368,597 acres. Put it in anotber form, the farmers in Livingston County h been obliged to plow nearly doublé the acreage of land (268,597), and have raised but a wry amall percentage of increase of corn over thar bretheni in Logan County, who only had toplo 140,8i9 acres. Let us give it another twist! A A farmer who bas his land well tilled need only work eighty acres of land and grow just about as much corn as the man who plows 160 and takes all the risks of drouth and much beeide. It is not fair, then, to conclude that the greatest labor-saving machine to-day of the age is the tileilrainf From the same souroe of Information l gather the following as regards the progress oi tile-drainage in these two counties: Fut Total number of feet laid in Livingston County upto 18S1 1,140,7 Total number of feet laid in Logan County upto 1881 3,989,489 This table proves beyond all theory that owintf to the free use of tile that one county has bef" ableto produce nearly as much corn on 140.UW acres of Jand as another county has produceö upon 268,000 acres, which is nearly doublé, the beauty of the whole is that it was done wD half the work ! lr. Editor, suppose a kind Providence should lengthen out the spin of our days until we saw Illinois thoroughly tile-drained. where would be put the corn that this State ivoiild produce and what would we do with our "silver dollars?"
