Ho itarted up the Congo river, moving 'rom the west coast eastward, in the 'all of 1879; and a dispatch by way of ?aris announces thathe is well ad vaneed on his road to the other side of the contiifent. This expedition is in many respects the most important that has ever been undertaken as its purpose ia mainly commercial; and it is hoped to open the vast interior of Central África to the trade of the world. Stanley is not traveling an altogether unknown jath. Livingston and Cameron and Stanley himself have been over a good deal of the ground, and he has the advantage of previous discoveries in ruapnng out his course. Before the close )f the year he ought to emerge upon ;he east coast and bring with him full information as to what are the prospects of bringing the región into commercial relations with civilized nationa.
