loading whale gun ever made has just been completed by Bobert Liddle, of San Francisco. It was made to go on the whale steamer Bowhead, which Htarted for arctic waters last Tuesday, nnder command of Capt. E. E. Smith. The gun in shape bears a strong resemblance to an ordinary breech-loading rifle, and weighs 105 pounds. It has a rebounding lock, and the length of the barrel 36 inches, and one ñvesixteenth inches calibre. It flres with precisión either a harpoon or bomb lance the distance of 30 odd yards, while even further than that it will do good execution. The gun swings on a swivel and can be flred in any desired direction and at alniost any angle, and is about as easily handled as an ordinary Urearm. We see an article in the papers about boy inventors. We hope they will invent a boy who won't whistle on his fingers and yell on the streets at night.
