A number of new experiiaents will be begun by the horticultural d partment thia year. Besides the extensivo testing of seeds to flnd what per cent, will germinate, many will also be tested to flnd how high temperatura they will endure, and what variatious of temperature will be required todestroy their valué. Corn froin the northern and southern states will be vested to iee IX [equal ternperature affect them differenily. Alternating rows of. different vegetables which are treated alike will be measured to see how the yields compare in quantity. Last year j rows of onions side by side receiviLg the same cultivation, varied often aa much as two bushels in yield. If these rows had been diffarently ed or cultivated the inference would j have been drawn at once, that such fertilization or cultivation was the cause of differenee in yield. Corn will be growth f rom the upper and lower ears on the stalks to flnd if there is any difference in yield. Experimento will )e continued with sporuted seeds that lave been dried. A kernel of wheat may be sprouted and dried at least three .imes. Long keeping specimens of Danvers onions will be grown for a few years to improve their keeping qualities. Similar experiments with ,he White Globe onion have resulted favorably.
