I am very foud of roses and raise a great many f rom slipi. I do not have any hot-teds or co!d-frames, or other conveniences of simelar kind. I simpy stick my slips as I cut them, in good garden soit where i expect my rose bushea io stand. Over each slip Iturn a glass f nút jar, which remains all winter, As cold weather approaches Idraw the earth up around the jar t little for protection. My slips, set down in this way rarely f ail to succeed. I beganto put them down inMa, and shallcontiuueto do so until about the flrst of September. I will add in conclusión, that I keep on hand asolution of whale-soap to sprinkle over my rose bushes whenever infected with any insect pest, and have found it eflicacious in ail cases.
