A Brahminical Marriage
The Registrar of Mairiage at Bombay solemnlzed on July 4, ander the civil form, the marriage of a Hindoo adv with a Brahmin. The ceremony :ook place at the residence of the bride's father in the presence of a number of friends. The preliminary dclarations of the contracting parties stated that they wero unmarried; that they did not prfes3 the Christian, Farsee, Jewish, Hindoo, Mahometan, Buddhist, Sikh or Jain religiĆ³n ; that they had respectively completed their 18 and 14 years ; and that they were not related to each other in any degree which would render their marnage illegal. This done, the bride's mother put garlands of flowers around the neck of the young couple. The man said "I take thee to be my lawful wife," and the woman, "I take thee to be my lawful huiband." Nosegays and rosewater were then passed around and the cmpany dispersed.
