Tu the Editor of Tlie Chicago Tribune. Dwioht, 111., March 16.- One of the strongest md mját convincing facts that I have yet seen with regard to tile drainage is brought out in ;he December report of the Agricultural Departnent of Illinois. It is this: ACREAGK. icreage in co.-n in Livingston County, 1881 368,597 icreaee in eorn in Logan County, 18-1. . 140,850 Livingston over Logan 127,738 YIELD. Held of corn ín Livingston County, 1881. .6,983.522 Field of corn in Logau Oounty, 1882 5,070,924 Livingston over Logan 1,902,698 In other words. Logan County has raised near y as much corn on 140,859 acres as Livingston ;ounty has on 268,597 acres. Put it in another 'orm, the farmers in Livingston County have been obliged to plow nearly doublé the acreage )f land (268.Ü97), and have raised but a very imall percentage of increase of corn over their jrethern in Logan County, who only had to plow 40,8. j9 acres. Let us give it anotlier twist ! A 1 farmer who has his land well tilled need only vork eighty acres of land and grow just about is mucn corn as the man who plows 160 and akes all the risks of drouth and mueh beside. I t is not fair, then, to conclude that the greatest Í abor-saving machine to-day of the age is the tilelrain From the same source of informiuion I jather the following as regañís the progress of Ue-drainage in these twocounties: ' Feet. i rotal number of feet laid in Livingston County upto 18L1 1,140,7113 " Potal number of feet lakl in Logan ! County up to 1881 8,888,469 ' This table proves beyond all theory that owing ' o the f ree use of tile that one oounty has been c ible to produce nearly as much corn on 140.000 l' icres of land as another ounty has produced R ipon 26H.0O0 acres. whiuh is iifarly doublé, and c' he beauty of the whole is that it was done with a lalfthework! Mr. Editor, suppose a kind Lence should lengthen out the spin of our days intil we saw Illinois tnorougnly tile-drained, i-hera would be put the corn that this State rould produce, and wliat would we do with our 'silver dollars?1 Samübl T.
