A new brick building is being erectea on Main street, and recently a doubleeyed, banged-haired wonian with a basket of eggs on one arm and a can of butter in her hand, stopped before the bossof construction and said: "Wantto buy any eggs?" "You will have to give her about. firee ten-pennies more," said the boss, directing a workman. "Give who some tenpennies?" asked the woman, setting down lier butter. "Say, Jim, come around here with yonr ax and hit her in the head." "Oh you're going to have me hit in the head," said the woman, putting down her eggs. "Well, when you want me hit in the head, just you comnience ahittin'. I'm- " "Hoist her up; hoist her up. Hurry up, she'll burst in two," yelled the boss, as a large tiruber commenced splitting. Tho boss, now that tlie affair is over and his nerves in a healthful state, says he knows it was the old woman who hit him, bat at the time he thought the building had caved in, and for the salary of a Senator he wouldn't undertake to again convince that woman ho was talking to the workmen instead of her. A Vermont jouth, at his mother's funeral, said to the neighbors:- "Mo and father are obliged to you all, and hope soon to be able to do as much for you."
