There were five of 'em on the corner. One said that his wife was cieaning house and had every room upset. The second observed that he had just left six painters at work on his house. The third said he was tearing out partitions and building on a wing. The fourth smiled sadly, and added that he was ffoing to have four ceihngs whitewashed, three rooms re-papered, a chimney torn out, and his hall widened. "Gentlemen," said the flfth man as he drew a long breath, "I don't wantto be looked upon as one who is trying to crawl out of his fair share of this world's misery, and I therefore take this opportunity of informing you that in order to buy new carpets and a parlor suite I have been obliged to mortgage my house, and shall probably ïose it."
