JACKSON FIRE CLAY CO., Manufacturera oí Stone Sewer Pipe AND All our Prain Tile ars made of Fire Clay, are of unusual strength and light weight, which materially reduces the breatcage and expense of transportation. Tho dltching of this class of tiling is less espeusive, as they do not require to be laid below f rost but only deep enougii to es■ape the plow. While this is more economical it also aids in obtaining a better fall or grade to the drain. To the Editor of Tlie Chicago Trtoune. Dwiobt, 111., March 16.- One of the Btrongest and most convincing facts that I have yet seen with regard to tile drainage is brought out In the December report of the Agncultural Depar ment of Illinois. It ia this: AC KI AG E. Acreage in corn in Livingston Couaty, Acreaëe in corn in Logan County, Í8SÍ.. I40]S59 Livingston over Lor au 137,738 YIELD. Yleld of corn in Livingston County.1881.. 0,983,522 Yield of corn in Logan County, 1883 6,070,921 Livingston over Logan 1,903,598 In other words. Logan County has raised near ly as much corn on 110,859 acres as Livingston county has on 208,597 acres. Put It in another form, the farmers in Livingston County have been obliged to plow nearly doublé tho acreage of land (568,597), and have raised but a very small percentage of increase of corn over their brotliern in Logan County, who only had to plow 140,809 acres. Let us give It another twist: A A farmer whc has nis land vrell tilled need only work eiehly acres of land and grow just about as much corn as the man who plows 160 and takes all the riks of drouth and much besides. It is not fair, then, to conclude that the greatest Iabor-saving machine to-day of the age is the tile drain From the same source of information I gather the following as regards the progresa of tile-drainage in these two counties: Teet. Total number of f eet laid in Li vingston County upto 1881 1,140,793 Total number of feet laid in Logan County upto 1831 3,!S9,469 This table proves beyond all theory that owing to the f ree use of tile that one county ha been able to produce nearly as much corn on 110,000 acres of land as another county bas produced upon 2öS,üOU acres, whick is uearly doublé, and the beauty of the whole is that it was done with hall the work! Mr. Editor, suppose a kind Provldence ghould lengthen out the spin of our days uiitil wo saw Illinois thoroughly tile-dralned, where would be put the corn that this State would produce, and what would we do with our "süvor dollars?"
