Harper's Magazine. Things siud aud done rnalapropos are sometiraes very arnusiiig. Here is an example: On a certain charge of ono of the Methodist Conferences in the Valloy of Virginia there was a change of proachers. The newly-appointed preacher's nanio was Wolf. His predeêossor was a serious, solemn man, who could scaroely appreciate a joke when made, much less be guiity of perpetrating one. This preacher was present with tho Presiding Eider of the district at the örst quarterly meeting. The P. E. requestod him to close tlie uiorning service on Saturday morning in the usual way. Talcing the hymn book, tae preaoher iooked rather hurriedly for a hymn, andread with a solemn air: Jesue, great Skepherd of the sheep, To Thee for help we fly ; The littie flock in safety keep, For, oh I the wolf is niyh. It comes oí helllsh malice f uil, To scatter, tcar, and elaj ; It eeizes every straggling toul As lts own lawful prey . The preacher, absorbed in his roadiug, never noticed the amused smile that iighted up every face ia the congregation.
