It is not pleasant lo hear that since Alaska has beeonie a Torritory of the United States tho cause of education has languisaed. A nativo Alaskan lady, dow the wifo of a gentleman in San Francisco, gives the following dark sketch of the present state of aflairs in Alaska: "With a few othors I carne to this city in 1868 on the bark Mensbikoff. During tho first part of my stay hore I was kindly cared for by Father Agapius Honcharenko and others. I then mot the gentleman who is now my husband and have lived in this city ever since. Bnt even to this dav 1 think of the horrible state of things introduced by the Adiencans in Alaska. With the exception of ono or two widely separatod mission schools, thoro are no educational facilities ofleied to tbe natives The parish school system. by which thoy received so much valuablo instruction, has uovor been revi ved, and tho rising generation is growing up in denso ignorance, not one in a hundred knowing how to road orvvrito. Under ïtussian rulo the education of nono oí the childron was neglected, but under American rule thoy go without schooling. Is it not a sad commentary on t ho boasted civilization of this country? '
