To tte Editor of T7ie Democrat : Sir: - The farmers alón? the line of the Toledo road, who have long been obliged to go without any railroad fenoes or to snbmit to a mere apology for one, will be pleased to learn that the legislature, by the efforts of Senator Kempf and Kepresentatives Sutton and Harper, has passed a bilí defining what a railroad fence shall be. The law provides for the different kinds of f enees: First, a board fence. Second, a combination of boards aad barbed wire, having two wires at ;he bottom, then two boards in the center and two wires above the boards. Third, flve wires with a board and cap at the top. Thus, it will be seen, that every fence must ha ve at least two boards . All ftnces must be four and one-half feet ïigh; posts to be not lessthan six inches n diameter and to be set not lens than wo and one-half feet in the ground, nor more than eight feet apart . The law also provides for farm crossings and jood gates. On complaint being made ;o the railroad commissiouer he is re[uired to compel the building of the ence, and is given ampie authority to mforce his orders without calling upon he prcsecuting attorney to assist him, is formerly he was obliged to do. If the aw is not enforced now the péople will cnow iust who is to blame.
