The extraordinary solar disturbances to which atteution has been called during the past few days are of great interest as connected wltli the extremely cold weather which is prevailjngon our planet. Partios ownlug property on the sun doubtless have great anxietv as to the localitiós which are being most disturbed. Rov. S. K. Cahlu-u]) states that the freat spot in the west, which will soon isappear behind tlio édge, Js still in its full proportions. The disturbances in the east is very curlously shaped, being forined on severa! moderately-sizea spots matted together, forming in the eastern part a triangle, and in the western a somewhat irregular niass. Further developments raay be expected. The gigantic disturbance near the center continúes developino; to amazing proportions. It is still dianiond-sliaped, with a disturbance in each of the corners. The ono on the western corner is fading away. The eastern portion now forms a triangle of truly colossal proportions. Tho jrreat spot in the northern angle is now dividmg into two - the smaller toward tho west. Mr. Calthrop thinks it probable, from former observations, ihat the western part will recede from the largor to sorae distance. The anglo to the east is formed by a spot of ahnost ineonceivable irregularity- black holes and light bridgea bí'in.fr mtnglfíd in inextricable ennfm-ion. lhe angle to the south is formed by the spot which was absolutely non existent on Mondar, which was insignificant on Tucsday, but developed rapidlj in the afternoon. On Wcdnesday morningit formed a spot of large proportionTin shape much like a horseshoe, or perhaps, rather, a mnshroom.with a rounded top, dark underneath, and thick white stalk. The dark underneath was the umbra, the rounded top the penumbra, and tho thick white stalk a rast mast of the unchangedphotosphere. He also observed yesterday that the stalk was rapidly coangiog, and was plainly dlsintegrating; and in the afternoon the whole of it appeared as a mass of leaves. This morning the whole stalk has disappeared, aiuï wc now have a perfect representation of ;v great normal spot, ahnost perfeotly round, with rounded umbra, dark uoolena in the center, and perfectly even penumbra, with Btraw-wispg pointing upward. It is at least twenty thousand miles in diameter in every direction; so that in this case we have assisted, as the French sav, at the birth of a great spot, as the whole of this took phieo vrhen this part of the solar disk was well turned toward U3. There U nu doubt that the spot commenced by :i jwwerful ebullition from the two smal] holes on Tuesday, and tliis was followed by -a down-rush, which gradually developed the sloping sides of the penumbra
