Astrologers divide the hcavens into twelve oqual parta, called "houses." Thia is dono by dividing tho vertical circle- or circle passing tïirough tlie zenith and east and west points of the horizon- into six paris of thirty degrees each, and six eorrespondimg 'divisions lie below the horizon. In regard to these "houses" Lilly says that "the exact knowledaje of tliem is so requisite that he who learns the nature of tho planets without exact judgment of tho houses is like an irnprovident man that furnishes himaeÜ with a variety of household stuff, having no place wherein to bestow tliem." To each of these "houses" is ascribed a particular signiíieanee. For instance, the flrst house refers to the stature, health and life of man, or it stands in state astrology for the coramon people; the second one refers to wealth generally; the tliird to brethren, to letters and to messen ;ers, etc, and so of the other houses. Ihe seventli house is singularly heterogeneous in its significátion, as it refers to lovers and husbands, animáis strayed, thieves and things stolen; so that if a young lady mre to mature af ter her absent lover, or an elderly lady after her favorlte cat, the nstrologer would look to "the seventh house and planets thercin and respecting."' The next things of importance in astrology are tho zodiacal signs. Aries, the first sign, is describod as being íiery, cholerío, bestial, luxurious, intemperate and violent; and bosides, it "rules" gumboils, toothache, baldness, placea of refuge for thieves, and, itiuong other eountries, Bngland. Campaneüa says that "Aries otiakes people ferocious, stubborn, fierce, jok], presumptivi' and crafty, like the Knglish." We ouglit to feel complimentea. Taurus signiiies people given to pleasures, like NeapoHtans. virgo signiiies the best matheinatieians, astronomers, learneil and ingenious mon, etc. Libra points to those given o the delights of music, and so on. - All he Year Sound.
