A potind of bananas; it is said, contains more nulrinicnt than throc pounds of maat or as many pounds. of potatoes, while as a food it is, in even sense, superior to the best whoaten bread. Althotigh it grows spontaneously thrOUgnOUt the tropics, when cultivated its icld is prodigious, for an acre of gi-ound plantod with bananas will return as much food material as thirtythree acres of wheat, or over one hundred acres of potatoes. It is not generally undorstood that bananas fried, bakedor roasted are very apetizing, and that sliced and placed in a dish, with altérnate slices of orange, they make a most dilicous desert.
