lt is not many years sincc Hallett Kilbourn was tbc boldest and largest dealer in real estáte in Washington. He was in New York to-day, and I aaked liim about real estáte at the capital. "Washington," said ho, "is fast becoming the winter resort of the rich people of the country. More real estáte is changing hands than ever before in its history. No such boom in building fine residence houses has ever been known. Most of the property being sold is for the botter class of residences." ■Wl u r:ier.:_„. „ w..,.i,;„o ton?" "Women-are doing it," said Mr. Kilbourn. "They love to come to Washington during the sessions of congress, where they meet people from all parts of the country, and the winter months can be passed in a perfect whirl of gayety. Womun are fond of the distinction which political ofliee confers upon men and women. Just as tho wcalthy of Europe seek the different seats of governniunt to be within range of official society, so are our ladies seeking Washington for a like purpose. They impresa their desires upon their rich lords and the result is that Washington is bcconiing moro and more the winter residence of people who have money with which to enjoy themselves. This will bring more transient strangers there, and we expect at no distant day to have a great hotel like the Grand Union and the United States at Saratoga, to bo run in iir.st-class shftpe, to accommodate the winter brade m Washington, the same as Saratoga dates it in the stimnier."
