Monday was election day. And it was all that could be desired by the republioans- warm and pleasant . It is on just suoh a day tbat they generally poll their largeat vote, and thero was no exception in this oase, although they asaisted in eleoting a demooratio mayor. There was very tittle excitenient at tht different votmg placel, although hot words were occasionally indulged in by those who were anxious for the success of the citizens ticket. But the poor fellows worked in vain, for their candidatea were snowed under. The last seen of Beman, after the vote on alderman had been announced in the first ward, was a little after eight o'clock, when he was making tracks for Bobt Campbell, evidently to oondole with him . Nor is the eleotion exactly satisfactory to the democrats. Of course, the republicana feel elated as they have a majority of two in the conncil, insuriiig them all the city offioers if they only pull true. And as they generally take advantage of their majority, it is almoBt afe to say that no democrat need now apply. When the oouncil was a tie a compromise was effected, each sharing the offices, and the same thing may possibly be done again, as " there was no politics, you know," olaimed in the election Monday. It they hould again "whack up" it would b ■ stunner to democrats.
