Gen. Durbin Ward died ín Lebanon, Ohio, May 22. His complaint was acute rheumatism. Gen. Ward was bom in Brecken county, Virginia, in 1819. Entering the war for the Union as a common soldier., he carne out a brigadier general by brevet, He began his services with Gen. MeClellan and later was with Gen. Thomas. As an orator Gen. Ward has bei1 11 most effective in the democratie cause. In two conventions he feil only a few votes short of being nominated for governor. He had been a state senator, a niemlier of the legislature, prosecuting attorney md district attorney. He was a delégate to the Charleston and Baltimore conventions and supporud Stephen A. Dmiglas for president. At one time he was the law partner of Torn Corwin.
