At Astoria, Oregon, during a heavy gale whieh prevailed off the Colu'mbia river entrance, seven salmón fishermen were drowiied. The name of only oue of the unfortunates could be learned, viz: M. Gk Steaff. Fonr men were seen engulfed in the breakers direotly beneath the lightïouse on Cape Hancock, which is a precipitous rook 300 feet high. The storm was -o violent it was impossible to render aid.
