The August meetiugof tbocity fathers was held Mouday evoni ng, Mayor lïobison in tbe cbair. There was a full board present except Aid. Waro. Af ter tbe reading of the minutes of tbe previous session the presentation of PBTITIONS was the ürst order of business. One for asidewulk on the nortb side of North street. from División to Detroit tttreet, was accepted and walk ordered built at ouce. A long petition signed by tbe solid men of tbe city, asking that a house be purchased for Airs. L. Moore, wLose husband lost bis lite while a meinber of the lire department, was on motion laid on tbe tab'e. T. L. Hewitt, after having gone to considerable expense in putting up a bootb, corner Main and Hurón streets, ou tbe tbird of July last, was compelled to remove it, and as he considered tbat $25 was about what the council should allow him, be asked that tbis amount be appropriuted. Referred to street committee. C. H. St. Clair & Son were given per mission to erect a 20x4 foot building adjoining their property on Fourth-st., but rcfused tbe privilege of putting up a wind mili. Aid. Allmendinger, chairman of the fïnance committee, prrsented liia report, and wurrants were ordered drawn for the various sums therein named. The total amouut allowed was $1,151.39, as follows; First ward, $75.65; second, $27.54; tbird, $9.41; fifth, $83.25; sixtb, S5.Ö6; contingent fund, $562.79; general street, $115.9"; general fund, $247.10. TKEASUKEIi's REPORT. Amount ou hand at lat report, $18,807.84; mouey rect-ived, $143.16; total, $19,046. Money disbursed, $4,203.71; balance on band, $14,842.29. Contingent fuiul, 815,105.67; general fund, overdraft, $1,487.87; general street fund, overdraft, $804.0!); first ward fund, $631.79; second, $55.58; tbird, 1277.87; fourth, $169.53. Prof. Davis' report relativo to the gradhig of a new street through tbe O'Neil property, was received and placed on file. He made a nuniber of suggeBtions and stated f urther, that to make the improvemement 9,252 cubic yards of earth would have to be removed. A stone sidewalk. 12 feet wide, was ordered laid on the south side of Huron street, in front of the property of the heirs of the late Samuel Hutehiuson. The motion f Aid. Keating, that tlie sum of S200 bü traiwferred from the contingent to the fourth wanl lnud, to pay for the grading of Elizabeth street, provoked considerable discussion. Aids. Allmendinger, Swift, Walz, and Poland each spoke on the question, which was lost by a vote of 7 to 6. As several of the f unds had been overdrawn, on motion of Aid. Allmendinger, the sum of $;5,8üO was ordered to be transferred fmtn the contingent fuud - general ttreet, $2,000; gener.il, 1,500; fifth ward, $100; sixth ward, $200.
