Frnnk H. Hamilton, the distinguished surgeon, died in New York on the 12th inst., of hemorrhage of the lungs. Frank Hastings Hamilton. M. D., LL. D., was a native of Wilmiiigton, Vt. He was bom Sept. 10, 1S13. He graduated from the medical departmont of the umversity in Pennsylvania in 1&33 and immediately settled in Auburn, N. Y. He was professor in surgerv in Fairfield, N Y., medical college in 1S9, and subsequently in the Geneva. N. Y., medica' col.ege. In lM-t he became associated with Dr. Austin Hint and James Platt White in establisbing the medicel depai-tment of the university of Buffa'o, in which institution he taught surgery. In the civil war he was surgeon of the Sist New York regiment, and was made brigade surgeon atter the battle of Buil Kun. A year later he became medical inspector of the United States army. He helped to found the i ellevue hospital medical college, New York, and was profesar of surgery thore from 1SW to lSin. He held many honorary positions of note. When President Garneld was shot, ir. ISS1, Dr Hamilton was ciilled in and was associated with the case uutil the presiden t's death. He with Dr. D. Hayes Agnow pproved of the course pursued by Dr. Blisi and his assuciates.
