Late information received at the agri cultural department regarding the coudition of hogs is that in Illinois and Indiana 1 cholera prevails generally. In the former state heavy lossea are reported in. several : counties. In Ohio and Michigan the con! dition of the animáis is fair. lu somo parta ■ ofWisconsln farmers are afraid to keep bogs on account oL cholera, and reporta from Iowa are of a similar character in some cases. Cholera, pink eye and measles are reported from Missouri, and in Nebraska the condition is considerably below the average. Kansas and Kentucky bogs are generally in good condition. Disastrons Storms. Babbitt of Michigan has been appointed to a $1,000 clorkship in the post oflice departraent undor the civil service rules. Arthur H. Whitlock of Michigan having served liis probntionary term under the civil service has been permnnently appointed. Liout. Wm, H. Allaire. twenty-third infantry, has been relieved from temporary duty at Fort Mackinac, and ordered to his company af Fort Wayne, Dotroit. MICHIGAN NEWS CONDENSED. John G. Owen of East Saginaw has pur; chased all the land of the Crawford estáte i in the township of Brookfield, Huron couuty. It comprises 5.0S0 acres and he paid $36,000 cash.'It is unimproved swamp land, containing considerable pine, much j cedar, and other timber. Jacob Hutchins, a prominent and wealthy farmer, died at the family homestead in Summit township, Jackson county, the other day, after a lingering illuess i of dropsy, aged 82 years. Deceased was I a neighbor of Jacob D. Crouch in his lifetime, and had occupied the farm where he died for 50 years. He was a very important witness in the trial of Dan Holcomb, which took place in the winter of 1884-5, and was the person who found the tracks lcading from Dan's house to the Crouch house, after the murder, which he swore were Jud Crouch's tracks. W. T. Phelps, an old veteran, was discharged from the soldier' home in Grand Rapids the other day and given a ticket of transportation to Houghton, upper península. Instead of using it he sold it to a scalper and is now under arrest. Ellsworth Hall, a 15 year-old lad at Cadillac, has been sent to ïonia for ninety days for brutally kicking a 10-year-old girl a short time ago. Tue girl died soon after but it could not be proved postivoly that it was from this cause alono. Daniel Loney, who shot and tnstantly killed James Malonoy at a dance at Coral on February 22, has been convicted of manslaughter in the Montcalm circuit. Mrs. David Stevenson of Brockway Center was so shockingly burned by her clothing taking fire recontly that she died the fofiowing day after great suffering. Mrs. John Kilpatrick, a pioneer of Nashville, was found dead in bed the other day. The Toledo & Ann Arbor railroad is now completed from Toledo to Mt Fleasant. The Salvation army in Michigan will divide its torces bet ween Michigan and Indiana. - Geo. Ernst, assistant chief engineer of the Port Huron & Northwestern railway met with a sad accident at Kigsloy by falling off a freight car and rolling under the wheels, losing his leg below the kneo. Pennsylvania speculators are leasing ground in and around Manistee, in anticipation of an oil boom. The flrst annual session of tho Michigan business uien's association was held in Grand Rapids recently with forty local associations represented. The object is the promotion of mutual interests. The 100 birthday of Mrs. Sarah Campbell was celebrated at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Jlary Ann Beckwith, three miles north of Jnckson, in the township of Blackman, on tho 21st inst, About 100 guests were present, auiong whom were relations from Battle Creek, Marshall and Leslie. Tho old lady is unable to move about the room, but sits in her chair and converses with ease, nnd rolates manj insta nces of pioneor life. James O'Connel, an employ of the Deer Lake company, was run over by the cars while attempting to steal a ride to Ishpeming. He.was drunk at tho time.
