plurality is 956. Six republican and five fusión congressmen elected in Michigan. Pluralitt for Luoe in this oongresainnal district about 800. In Lona wee coutity, where Salsbury was thought to be trong. Allen had 465 majority. Repúblicas corruption fands were plentitul in the third and fourth wards, Tuesday. The demócrata eleoted on the county ticket have au average majority of one thousand. Was the result of the eleotion Tueeday a rebuke to the administration of Grover Cleveland. It ia impoeaible to give the exact majorities on the county ticket until the official canvass next Tuesday. m i ■ The defeat of W II. Morriaon, the great revenue reformer, to a re-election to oongress, is significant in more ways than one. i ■ The republioans will have a working majority in the next legislatura, thus insnring the election of a republican to the United States aenate. Perhaps the officials of Jackson state prison will now have more time to devote to their dnties - the election being over - and lees prisoners allowed to escape. _ Surely the Courier has cheek to talk about demócrata spending money with a langu hand, when the truth is republican money figured largely in this oam paign. _ Luce is elected governor over Yaple by some five thousand plurality. Oiily a few years ago the republican majority in Michigan was; anywhere from 35,000 to 8,000. The election in New York city reeulted in the election of the Hoo. Abraham S. Hewett to the office of Mayor by a handsome majority, some twenty thousand over George and Roesevelt. Notwithstandisu the tirade of the Detroit Evening News, and the liea which eminated with the Tribune . Hou. J. Logan Chipman was elected to Congreas from the fi rat district. Ik W. A. Clark had even the remotest idea of being eleoted to the offioe of county clerk, that Jelusion has been dispelled by the magnifioent majority rolled up for Frederick A. Howlett The "Boy from Mendon" made a magnifioent run, and the republican majority of thousands has been whittled down to a mere trine as compared with the majorities rolled up years ago for the g. o. p. The following congressmen have been elected in Michigan : Chipman, D; Allen, R.; O'Donnell, R; Ford, D.; Brewer, R. ; Borroughs, R; Whiting, F.; Tareney, D.; Cutcheon, R; Fisher, D.; Moffatt, R. Wi can not understand why so many democrats remained at home Tuesday and thus refraioed from roting, unlees it is because they are disgusted with Cleveland's policy of retaining rerepublicans in office. The election of Tuesday as compared with that of two years ago in this congressional district shows a falling off of ty-five hundred lees votee were polled in this county than two years ago. Fob eome unacoountable reasou the prohibitionigts in Washtenaw aud Lenawee countiee, partioolarly, oarved A. O . Crozier, their oandidate for congress. lint then Crozier bas had the honor of running, and like a great man y others got left. The vote in this oounty may be gumed up as follows ; Yaple 3,819; Luce, 2, 715; Diokie. 478; Salsbury, 3,601 ; Allen, 3,073. Manir, dem. for representativa, has 98 majority over Allmendinger, rep . , and E. P. Harper 508 majority over Matthew Seeger. James S. Oorman, for senator has 978 majority. Ir the outrage perpetrated in Ypailanti Wednesday night, in whioh the reeidenoe of Bro. Pattison was bombarded, and the windows smashed, the occasion being a republican jubilee, had oocurred in the soutb, the republican press would have hemlded it trom one end of the country to the other as another Bouthem outrage. Fortunately it took place in republioan Michigan. Looality is everything when republicana wish to make capital. There are several things which contnbuted to the defeat of Lester H Salsbury ; for representativo in oongreus. And now that the election is over it ia well to point out wherein one great mistake was made. In the first place the circular letter which was mailed by the chairman of the Monroe oounty democratie committee to many old soldiere in this district ooncerning the "record of Capt. E. F. Allen as a soldier," was such a document as might have been expected to arouse the ire of these veterans who would not see one of their number slaudered without resenting it. The attack was unwarranted and unoalled for and oost the party many votee. Other very foolish things were done of which it is not necessary to mention, but they are fresh in the minos of the more clearheaded ones who said that they would only re-act in the Captain 's favor. One thing, ho wever, with Capt. Allen in groas, although he i a republican, Washtenaw county canuot fare any worse than it did by the election ot N. B. Eldredge two yeare ago, when we had the pension agent the Indian agent and I United States district attorney, whioh poaitions were held by oitizens ot old Washtenaw- bat of conree they were rpublioan.
