The votaries of the "manly art" assemled in large numbers at the Park Opera loase to witness Leedom's athletio exhibition. The first part of the mght was consumed in ordinary sparring exercises, etc. , though the "exercise" between Long and Bruce Thompson was iutüosely iueresting, while Jake Tullyand and Joe itepheDS oreated consiberable meariment. The chief feature of the o veiling was he contest between Leedom and Master 3harles McMahon. The former had chaienged any one in America to stand beore him except Sullivan and McC'afifrey. ?his challenge was accepted by Charhe IcMahon of Holland and McMahon's :ircus company. At 11 o'clock Mesare jeedom and McMahon appeared at their respective places on the stage, the former a tall, muscular, broad shouldered man, well tr .ined in the business he is making his profession, the latter a comaratively small man, or boy ot 18 years. Naturally sympathy ran out from all or joung McMahon, and a great many eared to see the con test begin, as they ïever expected to see him come up hardy the second time before his powerful antagonist. There was some delay caused over a discussion as to the gloves o be used Lendom wanting to use hard gloves, but after a brief delay the "manigement" agreed to put up half of the money if Leedom would agree to use the loft gloves. Marshall Tyler was on land ready to stop any attempt at a iard glove fight. Captain James Henry, after some delay was appointed referee, when the fight commenced indead earnest.in accordance with the Marquis of Queensbury rules. !n the first round Leedom made a foul y striking McMahon a heavy blow beow the belt on a porous piaster, that the atter wore on account of his troublee, which caused him much pain, but after a moment'sjdelay he carne to time and ever afterwards met his antagonist blow dr blow, until time was called on the ast round. During the contest the excitement was intense and the audience chmbed upou chaire, up posts and even upou the stage, aud it was with difficulty ;hat quiet was restored long euough to jermit the referee to announco that the lucky youngst'T had won the puree of 50. The announcement was reoeived with tumultuous applause, during whioh an additional purse of $26 was donated y his admirers, and presen tod through !dayor L'Engle of LaVilla. After the contest (Jharley walked down to Hazen's place, where he was tendered a reoeption. Young MoMahon, who is only 18 years of age, is a native of Manchester, Mich., is about 5 feet 4 inches high, and weighs 138 pounds. He has uever attempted a soientiflc contest before, only practicing with the gloves while in the circus dressing room, and it is said that he had not had them on inside of eight months. -
