"Forgiven," an exceptionally interestüg and breezy drama in four acts, welicuowu liere under its original title, Jack o' Diamonds," was preseuted at Vhite'a Theater last night, with Frederic Jryton as John Diamond. This is a emarkably shrewd and oiover piece of haracter drawiug, Diamond in the lay is a reformed gambler with right deas of manly honor.and an unhesitating ieliever in woman, a couscientious and evoted husband, and a father profoundy sensible of a father' s obligationa and tfsponsibilities. Mr. Bryton bas studied bis oharacter from the lite, and he rings to his delineation of ït those adnirable qualities of the actor which are lis warrant for the advanoed position which he occupies in a profession that ïas need of such as he in greater numjers than it now ean boast. This jourlal has diacussed his performance at eiigth on other occasions, and the the public has already taken careful note of many staking features. For these reasous there is little now to be said of it further than to record the fact that it has gained smoothness and momentum during the year of Mr. Bryton's absence from Detroit, and that he has wisely disinfected it of the professional gambler taint. His last night's audience gave him the warmest of greetïngs and followed him throughout the play with responsivo and appreciative
