For this report returns have been reoei ved f rom 775 eorrespondents representing 599 townsbips. Five huudred and fifty-one of these reporta are from 390 townehips in the southern four tiers o( counties. In reply to the question, "Has wheat during January suffered injury from any oause?" fifty-two eorrespondents in the southem counties, oighteeu in the central, and one in the northern answer "Yes and 494 correspondente in the southern counties, 110 in the central, and eighty-one in the northern answer "No." The round may be regarded as having been well covered with snow during the month of January, only twelve correspondente in the southern countie?, eight in the central, and none in the northeru reporting it not well covered. The average depth of snow February 1, in open level fields was three inches in the southern counties, six inches in the central , and twenty-one inohes in the northern oounties. Reports have been received of the quantity of wheat marketed by farmers üuring the month of January at 268 elevators and milis. Of these 226 are in the southern four tier oounties, which is fiftythree per cent, of the whole number of these sec ion, respeotively. The total number of bushels reported marketed is 705,804 of which 165,419 bushels were marketed iu the flrst or southem tier of counties; 193,731 buwLels m the second tier; 116,683 bushes i u thetliinl tier; 187,827 bushels in the fourth tier; 41,208 bushels in the fifth and sixth tiers; and 4,177 in the northern oounties. At tliirty -eight elevators and milis, or fourteen per cent, of the whole number from which reports have been received there was no wheat marketed during the month . The amount of wheat reported marketed in January was less than one-half the amount reported marketed in December. In the acres and yield of wheat in 1886 in the several states and territorios, as estimated by the United States ment of agricultura, and published in the report of that department for December, 186, the erop in Michigan is plaoed at 20,572,000 bushels, or 32,513 bushels les than the October estímate ot thia department. Oompared with stock in good, healthy and thrifty condition, horses are reported at 98 per cents.; cattle, 97. per oent. ; sheep, 98 per cent. ; swine, 97 per cent.
