The following letter wa reoeived by s gentleman of our city in answer to lome inquines respeoting the prohibitory law f Kanaal, f rom Bishop Vail of the Proetant Episcopal ohuroh of that atate. ia it may be aome interest to our eadera we ive it in f all. Ikv. Samüel Eabp, Ann Arbor, Miob. Rn. and Dear Bro:-n reply to your etter I would say that I think the prolibitory law ia proring ■ deoided blewng to the atate. Men will drink. No iw oan stop that. Bat this law ia aimed iraotly at the ■ Joons, and it ia closins; hem all over the state, aud by tiiia meana outting off rine tentha of the rinlting, and taking hwbv the temptsion from yoanK men to beoome drinkra. No law ia perfect and this worka ard in aome direotiona, partioularly with thoae who deaire it for medicinal mrpoars, giving yery diagreeable puboity to their aotion in t big matter, and aere are aome druggiats who abu-e ieir lieenae and aell to those who ought ot to have it. But on ttie whole, I do ■ )t hesita te to aay that I think it has one great good. Aa to the oler ?y and the use of fernented wine for the boly oommuaion, ïere ia no trouble at all, and no eflort ia made to apply the Uw to them. In purhaainff it they simply enter in the book ie object for whioh they need it, and othing more ia required. If I oan render you any f urther asaiatmee in this matter I shall be glad to do . Faithf ully your friend and brother, T. H. Vail (Bishop of Kansas.) Topeka, Kanaas, Maroli 4, 1887.
