For thie report returns have been re ceived from 1,001 correspondente, representing 747 towaships. Six hundred and sixty four of these returns are from 432 towuehips in the southern four tiera of counties; and 182 reporta are from 103 townships ia the central countiea. Correspondents very generally agree that it is yet too early to actually report upon the condition of wheat. The weather during March was extremely unfavorable, and warants the expeotation that the erop bas suffered severely. The fields look "bare and brown." Correspondent are yet hopef ui, however, that the root ia not seriously mjured. As usual wheat on clay and undrained lands and high knolls, has suffered most. The "condition compared with vitality and gro ivth of average years" as expreased in figures and shown in the table, is at this date, hardly as satisfactory as the summary of notes of corresponden ta pubhshed below. The weather since April 1, has been warmer, but it is yet so dry that the plant has made httle ïf any growth. Keports have been received of the quantity of wheat marketed by farmers during the month of Mareh at 218 elerators and milis. Of these lël are in the southern four tiers ot counties, whioh w 42 per cent., and 29 are in the lifth and sixth tiers of counties, which is 31 per cent of the whole number in these sections respectively. The total number of bushels repoi ted marketed is 808,254, of which 275,420 bushels were marketed in tbe first or southern tier of counties; 217,209 bushels in the second tier ; 107,210 bushels in the third tier; 168,308 bushels in the fourth tier; 37,757 bushels in the fifth and sixth tiers; and 2,350 bushels in the northern counties. At 31 elevatora and milis, or 17 per cent of the whole number from which report have been received, there was no wheat marketed during the month. The total number of bushels of wheat reported marketed in August, September, üctober, November, December, January, February and March is 10,788,001 or about 41 per cent of the erop of 1886. The number of bushels repoited marketed in the same months in 1885 and 188G was 12,024, 524, or 39 per cent ot the erop of 1885. For these months in 1885-6 reporta were received from about 45 per cent, and in 1886-7 from about 51 per cent of the elevators and milis in the southern four tiers of counties.
